Jodi Baxter’s son, Josh, is graduating from high school and undecided about his future plans. He’s trying to decide whether to go to college or spend a year volunteering at his favorite mission outreach.

A white supremacy group is passing out flyers and one of the flyers is delivered to Mark and Nony Smith’s home. Dr. Smith is a respected black professor and he is greatly disturbed by this. When he learns that the supremacy group is going to have a discussion on campus, he arranges to go, and asks several of his friends, including Jodi’s husband, Denny, and son, Josh, to go with him for support.

Josh is mistaken for a white supremacist while there, and a riot breaks out. While Josh and Denny escape with minimal injury, Dr. Smith is not so fortunate. And now his life is hanging in the balance. Will the Yada Yada Prayer Group be able to pray him through his life threatening injuries? And even more important, will they be able to bridge the differences between the white and black worlds to cause healing—especially among those with a mutual goal?

The Yada Yada Prayer Group Gets Tough is book four in the Yada Yada Prayer Group series. Readers will want to read the first three books in the series first so they can better follow the story along. I didn’t have the opportunity to read all the books that came first in the series, but the one I did read helped me understand this book a lot more. I loved the three dimensional characters and was almost tempted to pray for Dr. Smith after he was injured.

Even long time believers have a lot to learn about worship and I learned a lot by reading the worship descriptions in The Yada Yada Prayer Group Gets Tough. I appreciated the way they always start out with a rousing worship service, even when things couldn’t be worse. I highly recommend The Yada Yada Prayer Group Gets Toughand would like the opportunity to read the other books that might follow this one. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. $13.99. 375 pages.
