Publisher: Tyndale Fiction

ISBN: 1-4143-0812-4

Genre: Inspirational/Suspense

Amanda Griffin, Amy to her friends, is on the run. Years before she witnessed a gruesome murder, and she has reason to believe that the killer is after her. After all, she has the information that he killed for. Amy disappeared so completely that even her sisters believe that she is dead, but she’s in town . . .

At least until another murder, at her place of employment. She is the lone survivor and again, a witness. Even though the murderer is apprehended right away, if anyone discovers her true identity, then her life will be in more danger. So she changes her identity and disappears again.

Chief of police Luke Granger is on the scene when Amy discovers her dead co-workers and he develops a quick friendship with her. When Amy disappears again, he discovers the relationship between her and her sisters, two women recently named as heirs to a very wealthy man. Now, her sisters’ lives are in danger as Amy’s would-be-killer has discovered the relationship too. Will Amy resurface to try and save her sisters? Or is it too late?

I have been a long-time fan of Dee Henderson and have read all her books to date. I waited impatiently for The Witness to become available and was so happy when I received it to review. However, I was disappointed in The Witness. While good, it doesn’t seem to have the grabbing power of Ms. Henderson’s earlier works.

Never-the-less, The Witness is a good read and one that Henderson’s fans won’t want to miss. Amy’s reasons for vanishing are valid, though I have to wonder if it would be that easy to disappear as it was for Amy in the book. Luke Granger is a sensitive hero, though I also have to wonder if the chief of police is as hands-on as he is. Discussion questions are included at the end. $13.99. 378 pages.
