Title: When The Lion Roars Author: DiAnn Mills Publisher: RiverOak ISBN: 1-58919-030-0 Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary/Suspense
Not many people know Paul Farid's true identity, but those who do want him dead. An Arab Christian, Paul has dedicated his life and his wealth to FTW – Feed The World – an international organization that provides food and medical supplies to civilians in war torn Sudan. Risking his own life, Paul flies his plane into impoverished areas. When he arrives at a new sight, he is surprised to discover that the dedicated doctor he's heard so much about is an American woman.
Dr. Larson Kerr doesn't trust Paul Farid, but she desperately needs the supplies he's brought. She quickly accepts his gift and sends him on his way. But the man returns. She hates being dependant on his generosity, but there's more at stake than her feelings. The southern Sudanese people are starving, and the food and medicine Paul brings is saving lives.
Colonel Ben Alier, commander of the SPLA – Sudanese People's Liberation Army – doesn't trust Paul either. He knows the man's true identity, and the fact that he is an Arab, just like the cruel warriors Ben is fighting, makes him despise Paul. Only because Ben is a Christian does he restrain from smashing in the weasel's face.
But when Rachel, Ben's sixteen-year-old sister, is kidnapped by slave traders, Paul, Larson, and Ben are thrust together in a desperate attempt to save her. Will they allow their differences to destroy any hope of finding Rachel and helping the Sudanese people? Or will these three vastly different individuals put aside their prejudices and work together? And when both men fall for Larson, will one step aside or will there be a battle until only one man is left standing.
When The Lion Roars is the powerful tale of people fighting to make a difference—the only problem is that sometimes it's hard to know just who the enemy is. This is the problem Ben and Larson face when they meet Paul.
Even though Paul is bringing in much needed supplies, it doesn't mean he's not a spy. Paul is used to people thinking the worst of him, but he soon begins to hope Larson isn't one of those folks. Tension soars as Paul and Larson develop feelings for each other and Paul tries to keep Ben from killing him.
Readers will find it difficult to put down this exciting book. DiAnn Mills does an excellent job bringing her characters to life, and long after you finish, you'll wonder if Paul, Larson, and Ben aren't in Sudan still carrying out their destiny.
Ms. Mills also vividly creates the hot, humid landscape where a wrong step can mean death, yet the countryside contains a beauty all it's own. A subtly woven in faith message will engage and inspire readers until the final page.
DiAnn Mills has been a popular, award winning author in the Christian realm for years, but her stories keep getting better and better. Don't miss When The Lion Roars for a thrilling, heart tugging read. (320 pages / $12.99)
