Title: Whence Came A Prince Author: Liz Curtis Higgs Publisher: WaterBrook Press ISBN: 1-57856-128-0 Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Romance Leana McBride doubts she will ever see her young son, Ian, again. Now that her sister, Rose McKie, and husband, Jamie, have left Leana's home of Auchengray and returned to Glentrool, where Jamie will soon be laird, Leana feels it's safe to return from her self-imposed exile. But she is returning with a secret. What will her controlling father do when he finds out what it is? Much to Leana's surprise and dismay, Jamie and Rose have not yet left Auchengray. Having once been married to Jamie, and still in love with him, Leana finds the situation extremely awkward. Can she put aside her feelings for Jamie and be happy for her sister? And how can Leana bear to say goodbye to her young son again, even though the church says she is no longer his mother? Jamie McKie is determined to return home to Glentrool, in spite of his shameful past. Rose is carrying his second child and will accompany him and Ian, but what about Leana? The gentle, quiet woman still shares a place in his heart. Can he abandon her to the wiles of her devious father? When Jamie returns home, will the brother he deceived still seek to kill him? In Whence Came A Prince, sequel to Thorn in My Heart and Fair is the Rose, author Liz Curtis Higgs continues the heart-rending story of sisters, Leana and Rose McBride, both who dearly love Jamie McKie. Readers will cheer for Leana, who is probably one of the best heroines I've ever read about. Though she endures terrible things that would break a normal person, her unwavering faith in God carries her through again and again. She is more than kind and forgiving to Rose, who treated her horribly. I didn't want to forgive Rose myself, but Leana did, and it was the right thing to do. Jamie makes an excellent hero, though it's hard to imagine anyone getting himself into a situation like he has. Readers will definitely want to read the previous two books in the series to fully grasp what is happening in Whence Came A Prince. Also, keep the glossary handy, so you can understand the rich Scottish dialect. You'll find your emotions in a tug-of-war as Ms. Higgs throws one obstacle after another at Leana, Rose, and Jamie. Conflict abounds, keeping you eagerly turning the pages. A powerful faith message of trusting God no matter what and forgiving those who have wronged you is sure to inspire and encourage readers. Though you'll want to read this compelling story in one sitting, you won't be able to, since the book is five hundred and fifty-one pages thick. Whence Came A Prince has a very satisfying ending, and you'll be glad you stuck with it. Historical Scotland comes alive before your eyes in Whence Came A Prince |
