Title: What the Heart Knows
Author: Margaret Daley

ISBN: 0-373-87246-1
Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary/Romance
Kathleen Somers' world is falling apart. After her husband's death, she
hoped the move back to her hometown of Crystal Springs would bring
stability and a fresh start for her and her sixteen-year-old son, Mark.
But her once fun, lovable son has turned into a stranger. He's withdrawn,
sullen, and refuses to communicate. Kathleen wants desperately to believe
things will be okay again, but even her faith in God has taken a beating.
As soon as Dr. Jared Matthews meets Kathleen and her troubled teenager, he
makes it his mission to help them. As Mark's behavior turns more bizarre,
Jared encourages Kathleen to seek psychiatric help. He quickly develops
feelings for the brave lady, but his troubled previous marriage keeps him
from acting on his feelings.
Kathleen finds herself turning to Jared for help and support more and
more. Though he is a bastion of strength, he encourages her to put her
trust back in God's hands. Kathleen knows she's losing her heart to the
handsome, reliable doctor, but does Jared truly reciprocate her feelings
or is he just helping her to ease his conscience over his past failures?
What the Heart Knows is not your everyday sweet romance. It digs
deep, and will send you on an emotional ride as you agonize with Kathleen
over Mark's problems. Margaret Daley does an excellent job showing Mark as
a troubled teen without allowing his story to take over. The romance
between Jared and Kathleen remains the central focus. What the Heart
Knows contains a strong faith message as Kathleen questions and comes
to grip with why God allowed her husband to die and Mark to suffer. Jared
has to deal with his own problems of the past, which put a strain on his
relationship with Kathleen.
What the Heart Knows is a heart-tugging story that is sure to
encourage readers who have lived with a troubled teen, lost a spouse, or
simply questioned God at some time.
