Title: A Vow to Cherish Author: Deborah Raney Publisher: Bethany House Publishers ISBN: 0-764-22335-6 Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary/Fiction
If you missed A Vow To Cherish when it was first published in 1996, I encourage you to pick up the recent reprint and read it. If you read it in 1996 or since, I encourage you to pick up the recent reprint and read it.
A Vow To Cherish is a romantic story for sure. But it is more than a love story. It is a story of faith and hope. It is the faith of all involved to make it through the tragedy that slowly steals the life of Ellen Brighton. As the story progresses it is not Ellen who needs faith, for she is lost in the oblivion of her reality. Her husband John and her children struggle with feelings of helplessness, hopelessness and despair as the woman who has been the center of their lives deteriorates.
When John goes on a business trip and leaves Ellen in the hands of a nurse he has no idea this will be the pivotal crisis that will force him to make the hardest choice of all. A difficult choice, but one made with love. With Ellen and John it is always love.
When he meets Julia, a young widow new to the town, he finds friendship and comfort in her joyful spirit. She dispels the loneliness that surrounds him now that Ellen is away. But at his son=s wedding John realizes the friendship is ungodly. Not because they have done anything wrong, but because the vows he and Ellen exchanged so many years ago, are still real. And it is those vows that take him back to his wife.
Deborah Raney=s book is one that should be read by all married folks. And those who are thinking of getting married. It=s been a while since I=ve cried while reading, but A Vow To Cherish touched my spirit and my heart. And while it may not be God breathed, it is surely God touched.
If you want a warm read. A sweet read. A heart touching read. A hope filled read. Then read a Vow To Cherish .
My favorite line in the book: APlease, John, will you tell my grandchildren about meYtell them how much I would have loved them.@
