For years EMT Anne Lundstrom has bristled with prejudice against the gangbangers in the Phillips Neighborhood of Minneapolis. Then one night she answers an emergency call to the neighborhood and unwittingly walks into a hostage situation. A drug-crazed teen shoots her and only the quick reflexes of one of the hostages saves her from death.
A year later, after surgery and months of painful physical therapy, scars mar Anne’s body and her heart. Finally finished with nursing school, she can’t put the city behind her fast enough. Anne moves to the small town of Deep Haven to finish the last quarter of her community nursing internship and to escape those she blames for filling her with hatred and fear.
Former gang leader, Noah Standing Bear dreams the impossible. As a youth pastor in his old turf—the Phillips neighborhood—his passion for the next generation of gangbangers leads him to start the Wilderness Challenge camp just outside of Deep Haven. Almost everything has fallen into place. But, before Noah can get the final funding for the camp, his sponsors require him to find a nurse willing to commit to the camp for the summer. His heart tells him that Anne would fit the bill nicely, but after becoming the target of some of her rather scathing judgments, he’s not about to ask her. Instead he goes behind her back and convinces Doc Simpson to intervene.
When Anne realizes she’s been assigned to work with the very people she hates and fears the most, she’s ready to punch someone’s lights out. Why would God be so cruel as to draw her back into the world that nearly destroyed her? And why does Noah invoke vivid memories of the mystery man who saved her life?
Tying the Knot offers a tight weave of romance, adventure and suspense. Susan May Warren does an excellent job of pushing Anne and Noah to the very end of their courage as they face their greatest fears and weaknesses. Tying the Knot is a definite page-turner that leaves the reader fully satisfied. |
