Title: Twilight Author: Kristen Heitzmann
Genre: Inspirational/Romantic/Suspense A tragic rescue gone bad leaves Cal Morrison shaken and afraid to do the job he's dreamed about his whole life. Cal used to be Montrose's best firefighter. Now he's a clown–a clown who teaches kids about fire safety–and he's a firefighter who's afraid of fires. Dealing with his phobia and struggling to stay free from the alcohol he used to deaden the horrible memories, Cal has all he can handle. Laurie Prelane's dreams of leaving the small town of Montrose behind and finding a good marriage, money, and prestige have been shattered. Now she is back in Montrose, and all she wants is to put her past behind her and make a good home for her two children. Laurie is surprised when the old feelings she had in high school for Cal Morrison rise to the surface so quickly. He's still the teasing joker whose smile can set her heart spinning, but Cal has changed. Laurie wants him to share what happened so she can help, but how can she expect his honesty and trust when she's being less than honest with him about her past and the danger that may be following her? When Laurie Prelane, the love of his life, sneaks back into town with her two young children, Cal can't help pursuing her again. He doesn't understand why Laurie continually pushes him away when there's such an electrifying current coursing between the two of them. Finally, when desperate trouble finds Laurie, she calls for Cal's help. He doesn't think twice. All his life, Cal has been rescuing others, now Laurie is in trouble and needs rescuing, but who will rescue Cal? Twilight is the exciting story of a second chance at love. Any story about firefighters will capture attention right now, but Twilight digs deep and shows the emotional baggage one firefighter has as a result of a failed rescue attempt. Kristen Heitzmann does a brilliant job of showing Cal's human weakness as he struggles with the nightmares and panic attacks following the incident. Laurie is a mother determined to protect her children at all cost–even her own life. This story started out a bit slow for me, but once I was hooked, I couldn't put the book down. Twilight is a fascinating story that will appeal to romance and suspense lovers equally. | |
