Who would believe that weddings could be this much trouble? or this funny? A nosy Holly sneaks into her mother’s room to read the greeting card her mother had received from Uncle Jack. Who knew she’d end up hiding there? Holly deals with boys, colors, an allergic groom, an annoying boyfriend, an angry cousin, the family cat, and friendships.

Danny Myers, her boyfriend, quotes a lot of scripture and points out the “right way,” at least the right way as he sees it. Holly gets tired of his preachy ways, but isn’t sure how to cope with him or even if she wants to. Plus, she wonders if handsome Jared Wilkins, the first boy she ever had a crush on, has changed, or if he still flirts with every girl he meets. Her cousin, Stan, thinks she is gossiping about him and that causes problems that even Holly can’t handle. Lots of changes go on in Holly’s heart and life as she faces new challenges every day. Along the way, she learns about relationships, God’s love and perfect weddings.

The cover was designed by Cheryl Neisen and the cover illustration was done by Paul Caale. Caale’s cover picture of the infamous purple bridesmaid’s dress, the sneezing groom, and the embarrassed mom will coax young readers to pull this book from library shelves. The only illustrations on the inside of the book are a 2 tone gray heart at the beginning of each chapter.

In The Trouble with Weddings, Lewis has provided teenage girls with a good book to read. She doesn’t hit them over the head with what’s right or wrong, but filters the information through a great set of well-defined characters girls can relate to. Girls will enjoy the book and parents will be pleased at what their girls are learning.
