Title: Troubled Waters Author: Rene Gutteridge Publisher: Bethany House Publishers ISBN: 0-7642-2644-4 Genre: Inspirational/Women/Fiction
Macey Steigel ran away from home seventeen years ago with no plans to ever return. But her father’s death changed everything. She plans on burying him and making sure her mother is settled, then Macey intends to return immediately to her job as a Dallas television news anchor. The past would have to remain where it was. Behind her.
As soon as Macey arrives at home though, her carefully laid plans become unraveled. She doesn’t expect to find all the ghosts in her closet stirred up and ready to haunt her at every turn. Macey soon finds herself faced with a choice—should she return to her job and a dreamy future and forget about home again? Or should she face her demons and bury her past?
I instantly related to Macey’s mother—I could see a lot of my own mother in her. I felt sorry for Macey, because she wasn’t able to right past wrongs before it was too late. I hoped she’d be able to find peace and develop a relationship with her mother. There wasn’t much in the book I disliked, but at one point Macey did something that made me absolutely furious. I wanted to put the book down and not finish it, but the story was so compelling I kept reading, hoping that the situation would be made right.
