Annie Trenton hopes to make her deceased husband Will’s lifelong dream a reality. She and Silas Crockett, Will's partner, will be displaying the Crockett-Trenton Horseless Carriage at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, in hopes of finding financial backing so they can begin production. Keeping track of the scatterbrained Silas is a chore in itself, not to mention fighting the throngs of people, but Annie won't give up until Will's dream is realized.

Nick Rutherford, a star performer in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, is happy to see his Uncle Silas again, but it's his uncle's partner who intrigues him right from the start. Annie is pretty, smart, and capable, and Nick doesn't mind spending time showing her around the huge exposition.

While in Chicago, Annie visits Will's family, but the reception is far different than she had hoped. Disappointed, she returns to the exposition and finds solace in spending time with Nick and telling people about the horseless carriage.

Annie begins to think she's being followed, but Nick blows off her concerns. When her room is ransacked, Annie wonders what's going on. Is she just overly suspicious and tired from the long days spent promoting their horseless carriage and keeping track of Silas, or is there more going on than meets the eye?

Annie realizes she is strongly attracted to Nick, but is she being disloyal to Will's memory if she allows her feelings for the rugged performer to grow?

Ticket To Tomorrow is a fascinating trip back to a time when life was slower and the world was on the brink of the industrial revolution. Carol Cox does an awesome job of taking the reader on a tour of the huge World's Columbian Exposition as they experience it through Annie's eyes. Annie is a woman determined not to let her deceased husband's dream die, as he has. The reader can't help but admire her grit and bravery in the face of mounting difficulties and disappointments.

Toss in a Spanish princess, some bad-boy Cubans, a traitor, and an eccentric old woman, and you have a fast-paced, intriguing tale of mystery and mayhem. Ms. Cox keeps readers guessing to the end as to what the antagonist is up to. A thrilling chase scene culminates an enjoyable read and a romance that will make you sigh. (320 pp., $9.97)
