Seminary student Kevin Parsons is working on a paper about man's sinful nature, or in his own words, "The good, the bad, and the beautiful." He is considering the three natures of man when he receives a call on his cell phone, threatening to blow up his car unless he solves a riddle and confesses his sin to the world.

While Kevin doesn't know what specific sin the caller wants–after all, everyone sins–neither does he care to open the door to his past, especially since he attends a School of Divinity.

The call is no hoax, and once Kevin maintains a safe distance, his car explodes. The calls continue and include riddles that Kevin must solve. Various government agencies become involved, investigating Kevin's caller when the public is also threatened with the explosions. FBI Agent Jennifer Peters has a personal vendetta against the caller, and CBI agent and childhood friend, Samantha Sheer, comes to Kevin's aide as well.

Dekker takes us into Kevin's past, reliving his relationship with Samantha and a feared boy, someone Kevin believes may be responsible for the caller's bombs. Readers will not expect the story's resolution, and I'm not sure I would consider it a satisfying ending. Still, Dekker's goal was to make a point about man's sinful nature, so why should the main character escape? Prepare to be stunned.
