Title: Temporary Husband Author: DiAnn Mills Publisher: Heartsong Presents ISBN: 1-58660-926-2 Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Romance
School teacher Nettie Franklin believes in temperance with such a passion she doesn’t hesitate to march into the local bar and loudly express her views to all the patrons and staff. When she pours a man’s drink on the floor and refuses to leave, she lands in one of Mesquite, Nebraska’s two jail cells. The local judge won’t help, because he owns the saloon!
Riley O’Connor had been thrown out of town years ago and told that if he ever returns, he’d be put into jail. Wanting to thank the man who saved his life, Riley risks the judge’s wrath. When a woman accidentally hits him over the head with a skillet when aiming for her husband, he is accused of being drunk and thrown in jail.
The only way out of jail is for a family member to bail them out. Since neither Nettie nor Riley have family, and are desperate to get out of jail, they agree to marry and plan to get the marriage annulled three days later. But after three days, they discover to their horror, the judge refuses to annul the marriage! Riley owns a ranch in Montana and needs to return home, but Nettie refuses to leave Nebraska. Is there any hope for this marriage to survive?
Riley has a past, but thanks to a friend he has come to know Christ. He is a sensitive man who I quickly came to care about. Nettie is passionate about her beliefs, but she doesn’t always act on them the right way. I found it hard to relate to her at first, but she started to grow on me. I hoped that the two of them would work things out.
DiAnn Mills has penned another winner with Temporary Husband. The plot line hasn’t been overworked; In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever read another book with the same plot. Readers will delight in revisiting some characters in Ms. Mills’ previous books. Pick Temporary Husband up today!
