Title: Sweet Bye-Bye Author: Denise Michelle Harris Publisher: Walk Worthy Press ISBN: 1-978-0-446-69936-5 Genre: Inspirational/Chick-lit
Chantelle Meyers has a great job, a fabulous wardrobe, and a good boyfriend. But when Chantelle goes to her parents’ house to find her dad unconscious on the floor, the victim of a massive heart attack, Chantelle promises God that if He saves her dad’s life, she’ll start living right. When her father miraculously survives, Chantelle is determined to keep her promises.
Chantelle’s boyfriend isn’t so understanding when she wants to stop having sex with him and going to church. Chantelle struggles with her newfound faith, but also suffers with events in her past that have affected her.
When a previous boyfriend comes back to town and starts trying to woo Chantelle back. Will Chantelle find the answers in her past to face the future?
Sweet Bye-Bye is an African-American chicklit, which will be excellent for teaching young women that it’s okay to say no to sex and other issue’s which the world demands compromise.
I couldn’t really relate to Chantelle, as her world is not mine, but the book is good for a day of devoted reading. Some of the events felt rather contrived to me, but all in all the story is a good one that needed to be told. I hope that it will encourage some young woman that it’s okay to live God’s way. Includes reading book guide. $13.99. 269 pages.
