Title: Sooner or Later Author: Vickie McDonough Publisher: Heartsong Presents ISBN: 1-59310-850-8 Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Romance
Sooner or Later begins with a prologue in which Rebekah Bailey flees in the night to escape being traded to her stepfather’s friend for a side of beef and some moonshine. She ends up on the prairie starving and dehydrated. Mason Danfield is on a trek of his own to deliver his niece and nephew to their father after the death of Mason’s sister and wife. Since losing his loved-ones, he has no time for God. He wants to rid himself of his losses and head west. But he doesn’t plan on picking up a straggler amidst the prairie grass in the heart of the country.
Rebekah is thankful to the Lord for sending Mason to rescue her, and though she is falling for the two young children, she keeps her sights set on Denver, despite her growing feelings for Mason. Mason discovers that Rebekah fills needs he didn’t realize he had. She makes a real good momma to his niece and nephew. He begins to have doubts about moving west without the small family they’ve become. Before he realizes it, he is praying once again, hoping to win Rebekah’s heart.
“With a smile that warmed her insides more than a campfire on a cold night.” That’s just a taste of the wonderful descriptions in Vickie McDonough’s sweetest of romances. I have to admit, I did sigh with satisfaction at the end of this one. 170 pgs. $4.95. |
