Title: A Soldier's Heart Author: Marta Perry Publisher: Steeple Hill ISBN: 0-373-87432-4 Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary/Romance
Luke Marion was severely wounded in Iraq. Home now, and in a wheelchair, he feels his life is over. Luke blames himself for his injuries, feeling he let his squad down. Now the men he led are going into battle without him. Depressed and sure he’ll never walk again, he just wants to be left alone. He even refuses the physical therapy he needs so badly.
Mary Kate Flanagan Donnelly is a widow with two children to raise. She dated Luke in high school, and now he is her first case as a physical therapist. Determined not to fail, she doesn’t let him get by with any thing. But for some reason, the more they clash, the more she finds herself thinking about him in a purely personal way.
I fell in love with Marta Perry’s Flanagan Series, long ago, and A Soldier’s Heart is my favorite so far. Maybe it’s because I’m so proud of our men and women in the military, but Luke Marino and his struggles against overwhelming odds, gripped my heart. I was halfway in love with him myself by the end of the book.
