Maxine Cooke-Nash and Odessa Pepperdine are the wives of their retired minister husbands and are tired of sitting in the shadows and doing only what their expected. So, Odessa (the most out-spoken of the two) and Maxine decide that it’s time to shake things up.
Jan is a former cheerleader who is extremely bitter. Bernadette is a single bridal shop owner who seems destined to be an old maid, and Chloe is a trouble magnet needing fashion intervention . . .
When Maxine and Odessa decide to make these three ladies their projects, and a new single pastor moves to town, the whole community is turned on its heels.
I love Annie Jones quirky voice, and The Sisterhood of the Queen Mamas is no exception. Ms. Jones grabbed me from the beginning, and held my interested until the end, although I must confess that I did get a bit confused at first by who each of the characters were.
The Sisterhood of the Queen Mamas is written in Odessa’s point of view, with Maxine’s comments intermingled in each chapter, like they are talking to each other. I like that approach, though it did take some getting used to. If you like flea markets, garage sales, and meddling senior citizens, you are not going to want to miss The Sisterhood of the Queen Mamas. I’d like to see this book continued in a series. $13.95. 277 pages. |
