Lilly Jacobs, Poppy Clayton, and Morgan Malliard have been friends for as long as they can remember. Poppy is a homeopathic doctor with an unusual fashion sense, Morgan is a jewelry heiress, and Lilly dreams of being a fashion designer. Even though she works for Sara Lang, she is hoping to get that well earned promotion to become a real designer.

Unfortunately, Lilly has bad hair and has to spend five hours in a salon getting her riotous curls straightened. And while she is gone, her promotion goes to someone else. However, Lilly is offered a job in finance, but when she turns it down, she’s fired. Hoping for a sympathy shoulder, she goes to her boyfriend’s house, and discovers she’s been dumped.

This calls for a serious spa girl weekend. Lilly calls her friends, Poppy and Morgan, and they head for the spa for serious bonding time. There Lilly decides that she’s going to take the risk and open her own design business. But she has only six months to prove she can succeed in her dream career. Grandma is nagging her to get a ‘real’ job.

Lilly’s friend, Morgan, is announcing her engagement to an old man, and while trying to talk so sense into Morgan, Lilly finds herself pursued by three men. And if that isn’t enough, her roommate, Kim, has run off with all Lilly’s upstart money for her business. How can a girl possible focus on design?

She’s All That is all that and more. At first, I didn’t think I’d be able to relate well with Lilly. After all, I’m a Midwestern girl who’s never been to California, and could care less about fashion. But Lilly quickly won my heart and I came to care deeply for her and her friends. Kristin Billerbeck definitely has the gift of making her characters come to life.

The first in The Spa Girls series, She’s All That stands alone. I am looking forward to reading the second book in the series A Girls Best Friend . $13.99. 308 pages.
