Title: Shepherd’s Son Author: Terry Burns Publisher: RiverOak ISBN 10-1-5891-9033-5 Genre: Inspirational/Western
After Jay Mendelson’s father died, the only way he and his mother could keep their land was to switch over from raising cattle to raising sheep. But this is cattle country. The local ranchers, led by Blake Johnson, who practically runs the town and surrounding ranches, are determined to rid themselves of the hated sheep.
Blake sends Rafe Silbee and his hired guns to attack Jay. They even shoot his dog. Both Jay and the dog survive, and instead of being frightened, he is even more stubborn about hanging on to what is his, even if he has to fight.
Carrie Sue, Blake’s daughter loves Jay enough to stand up to her father, his hired killers, and the entire town if necessary. As the war between the ranchers and Jay heat up, things look bleak for the sheepherder, but with God’s help and the love of a good woman, he doesn’t stand alone.
I grew up reading westerns my Daddy checked out of the library. Luke Short, Max Brand, Zane Grey, and B.M. Bower, kept me spellbound. Terry Burns is right at home in their company. Shepherd’s Son is a wild-west adventure, with an inspirational message. I enjoyed every word of it. You can’t miss with this one. |
