Title: The Shadow Within Author: Karen Hancock Publisher: Bethany House Publishers ISBN: 0-7642-2795-5 Genre: Inspirational/Fantasy
Four years have gone by since Abramm fled his kingdom in The Light of Eidon. Abramm has been living peacefully abroad, but when he hears of a monstrous creature attacking his homeland, he returns to fight the beast and reclaim the crown he thought he’d never wear.
While his god, Eidon, prepares the way for Abramm, he still has many enemies he must face, including his own murderous brother, the current king. The only thing that will save him is the Light that lives inside him. But to make his critics happy, Abramm attempts to hide this Light. However, before he can regain his kingdom, he must reveal the truth. Will Abramm have enough faith in the One who created his destiny to obtain what he set out to do?
The Shadow Within is book two in The Legends of the Guardian King series. Readers will want to read book one in the series first, The Light of Eidon, as most of the events that take place in The Shadow Within will not make sense without knowing the background. (For non-fantasy lovers, whether it will make sense after that is iffy.)
I had to really struggle to get into The Shadow Within and put it down several times to read other books more appealing to me. But once I decided the book wasn’t going to magically review itself, I sat down and read it. Some of the events in the story were quite exciting once I got past the strange terminology.
I don’t normally read fantasy, but my husband loves it, and he is looking forward to reading this book as he enjoyed the first book in the series. If you love fantasy, then The Shadow Within is a good book to pick up. | |
