Title: The Senator's Other Daughter Author: Stephen Bly Publisher: Crossway Books ISBN: 1-581-34236-5 Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Romance
Grace Denison's arrival in Lordsburg, New Mexico Territory 1884 is anything but dignified and proper as would normally welcome a Senator's daughter. But she's used to that sort of treatment. In her politically ambitious family she's always treated less than nice. Her sister is the daughter the family hangs their political aspirations on.
When Grace is banished to Lordsburg, she decides to make the best of it. But after meeting cowboy and local hero, Mr. Colton Parnell at the stagecoach station she is convinced the best will be hard to find. Grace carries the secret reason for her banishment in her locket. Will that secret keep her safe or eventually break her heart? Colton Parnell plays an intricate part in that outcome.
Stephen Bly's premiere book in The Belles of Lordsburg series is a warm, fast read. The characters are real and believable B even Buddy the 100-pound pig that resides at the boarding house where Grace takes a room. The plot moves quickly. I found myself both eager to keep reading and trying to slow down so I wouldn't reach the end.
The message to trust God and the power of forgiveness is woven through this sweet story. My favorite line in the book? "Lord, this is a delightful surprise! Saved by a pig in the shade!" | |
