Genre: Inspirational/Legal/Thriller

Sixteen-year-old Tara Bannister is glad her abusive stepfather is dead.  She claims she shot him in self-defense, but all of the evidence points to cold-blooded murder.

Rookie lawyer Leslie Conners gets her feet wet in her first criminal case defending Tara.  Leslie’s fiancé and law partner, Brad Carson, promises to be by her side through it all.

But can they surmount the multitude of obstacles that threaten their case and their reputations?  Is Leslie’s client even telling the truth?  What is the real story, and who else is involved?

Test your intellect and analytical skills in this engrossing legal thriller, but be prepared for your emotions to be tugged as well.  Singer does an excellent job of getting in the female mind and staying there through her journey of doubts and fears.

One of the most intriguing things about this novel is how it is told in first person and remains in the present tense throughout.  While this method was successful in keeping me in the moment as if the events were currently happening, I struggled for the first half of the book.  When I finally got used to it, I gained a new admiration for Singer’s ability.

This novel truly has it all: murder, humor, romance, spiritual search, twists, and a satisfying ending.  So, when’s the next one coming out?
