Title: Season of Secrets Author: Marta Perry Publisher: Steeple Hill ISBN: 0373873964 Genre: Inspirational/Romantic/Suspense
Dinah Westlake witnessed the brutal murder of her pregnant cousin, Annabel, years earlier, but a concussion blocked the horrible memories of that night. Now, ten years later, Annabel’s husband, Marc Devlin has returned to celebrate on final Christmas in the town (as a gift to his thirteen-year-old son, Court and to list the house for sale).
Dinah goes over to help clear the attic of their personal effects and to decorate the house with them, but soon it appears that someone is watching them. When Marc finds a note in the mailbox, warning him to leave town, Dinah hears an intruder in the house. Is someone afraid that Marc and Dinah will discover the truth about who killed Annabel?
Season of Secrets is a suspense set during the colorful holiday season, but it isn’t any less suspenseful. There are several possible leads early on in the story, but the red herrings are so well done that I had trouble guessing who the real murderer was.
The characters are real, immersed in true southern charm, and the story is a colorful as the season. I enjoyed reading Season of Secrets and look forward to more from this talented author. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. $4.99. 247 pages.
