Journalist Monica Brunette visits the South African town of Lady Helen to document a hospital known for its treatment of burn victims and is instantly awed by the area’s unrivaled beauty. Located on the western coast of South Africa, Lady Helen is besieged with problems, though its view of the ocean and swaying palm trees make its appearances seem more suitable for picture postcards.
As Monica becomes acquainted with the area, she is increasingly fascinated with the residents of Sandpiper Drift who are threatened with eviction from their quiet neighborhood beside the lagoon. Determined to reach the bottom of the story, Monica packs up her laptop, her adopted children, and her housekeeper and they embark on a journey of a lifetime.
Sandpiper Drift is the sequel to The Road to Home. If you haven’t read The Road to Home you will want to read that book first as Sandpiper Drift refers back to instances in the previous book several times. I recommend reading the two books close together as I’d forgotten several things that happened in The Road to Home that seemed almost vital to know in Sandpiper Drift
I enjoyed revisiting the characters in this engaging series. It is a decidedly setting based story, with the beautiful country of South Africa playing a vital part. The scenery is expertly described so that the reader will feel that they are there with the characters. The faith message is expertly woven in as well. $13.95. 393 pages. |
