Title: Restless Journey Author: Marcus Ryan Publisher: Harvest House ISBN 0-7369-1735-7 Genre: Inspirational/Men/Nonfiction
I know. This is a book written by a man for men, and I’m a woman, but I enjoyed it very much. The writing style is engaging and entertaining and it made me think about my own journey. Marcus Ryan makes the observation that when we reach the end of our lives all of our plans, our hopes, are finished. The only things we leave behind are those that linger in the minds of the people who knew us.
Each of us, male and female, have a hunger to be known by others. It bothers us when people we’ve met and spent time with, can’t remember our names. We want people to know us as we really are, to like us, not of some preconceived opinion, but because they know us. Know what we are and what we stand for, and they like what they know.
He also asks how well we know ourselves. I’m guessing, for most of us, the answer would be not very well. If that sounds strange, stop and think about it. How honest are we with ourselves; about our motives, our beliefs, who we really are? Doesn’t the Bible say we can see the gnat in our brother’s eye and can’t see the two by four in our own? Do we see ourselves as the person we really are or the person we want to be?
Every chapter holds a wealth of good information to help the reader along the path of his own Restless Journey. If the man in your life is a reader, he’ll want this book. |
