Hoping to escape from her tragic past, Kate Shaughnessey and her husband, Will, leave Missouri and build their dream ranch on a homestead in the Oklahoma Territory. Now everything has changed. Will and their infant son are dead. Kate struggles daily to pound out a living on their cattle ranch and to raise her young daughter, Jo. Repairing fences, birthing calves and fighting the elements almost becomes more than she can endure.

Matt Johnson, a ruthless cattle baron, is pressuring Kate to sell. When she refuses, Matt shocks her to the core by asking her to marry him. Though everything within her screams no, Kate must consider what is best for her daughter. Kate knows Matt Johnson could easily provide a quality life for them, but she also knows she could never love him.

After Kate saves the life of a Comanche boy, she finds she has a guardian angel in the form of a Comanche warrior. Tochoway repays his debt to Kate by supplying her with fresh meat and keeping watch over her and the ranch. A special friendship forms between Tochoway and Kate, and she begins to wonder if there is more than friendship between them.

Luke Josey is a man running from his past. Haunted by a terrible mistake, Luke struggles to find freedom from his pain. He takes a job working as a ranch hand for Kate and is quickly drawn to the pretty young widow and her darling daughter. When things start to go wrong on the ranch, Luke realizes that he will fight with everything in him to protect Kate and Jo. Through Kate's sharing about God's forgiving grace, Luke begins to believe he can start over, until the day his sin confronts him face-to-face.

Providence is the compelling story of Kate Shaughnessey and the three men who vie to be a part of her life. Will Kate give in to the pressures of her hard life and marry Matt Johnson? Will God enable her to help Luke find peace from his tormenting past? Or will her unusual alliance with the Comanche warrior grow into something greater?
