Title: A Promise For Ellie Author: Lauraine Snelling Publisher: Bethany House ISBN: 0-7642-2809-9 Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Fiction
Andrew Bjorklund has loved Ellie Wold forever. Well, at least since his family took her in as a young child. He’s been her protector and since he was a child he’s vowed to someday marry Ellie. Now, Andrew is graduating from school and plans to marry Ellie in June.
Ellie Wold’s family has moved five hours away from Andrew and she is preparing to leave her family to go to his family to prepare to be wed. She’s excited and a little scared to be moving so far away from her family. Still, marrying Andrew is what she’s always dreamed about.
When Andrew’s store-bought house is slow being delivered, Andrew’s father suggests that Ellie and he should wait to be married until after the house comes. Andrew reluctantly agrees to talk to Ellie about it, and he’s upset and angry when she agrees with his father. Then tragedy strikes. Will they be able to keep their faith when the life they dreamed of is unraveling?
A Promise For Ellie is the first book in the Daughters of Blessing series, but it is also a continuing story from the Dakotah Treasures and Red River of the North series. At first I was a bit lost as some characters from different series were mentioned, but then I figured out that it is a continuing saga. It was nice to have Andrew and Ellie fleshed out more in A Promise For Ellie.
Once I got past the slow beginning, the story did become more interesting. It easily stands alone, one doesn’t need to read the other series to understand this book, though it is helpful in order to keep who some of the other characters are straight. The faith message is expertly woven in. I enjoyed the setting of North Dakota, immensely. I recommend A Promise For Ellie as a book you won’t want to miss. $12.99. 235 pages.
