Title: Premonition (Book Two of the City of God series) Author: Randall Ingermanson Publisher: Zondervan ISBN: 0-310-24705-5 Genre: Inspirational/Science Fiction/Biblical Fiction
“The only thing worse than not knowing the future is…knowing the future.” Randy Ingermanson
In Transgression, the first book of the City of God series, Rivka Meyers, a Messianic Jewish archaeologist, and Israeli physicist Ari Kazan travel back and time and become trapped in first-century Jerusalem with no way to get home. In Premonition Ari and Rivka, now husband and wife, must adapt and make the best of their new life in this ancient land.
Forced to conform to the cultural expectations of women, Rivka struggles to find her place in traditions she despises. Relying heavily on her studies of Jewish historian Josephus and the New Testament to make sense of the events around her, she develops a reputation as a seer woman. But, when she realizes what horrors are around the corner for her people, she uses her knowledge in an attempt to circumvent the future. She boldly manipulates King Herod and his sister and, for a time, thinks she’s kept Hanan ben Hanan from gaining the power he covets.
Ari witnesses a horrific accident within the temple walls and determines to use his expertise as a physicist to keep it from happening again. But in his blind fervor, Ari makes a dangerous enemy of temple priest Hanan ben Hanan—who vows to destroy this foreigner, and anyone else he perceives as a threat to the temple.
Rivka’s prediction of an eclipse fails and immediately she’s shunned as a false prophet. Then her careful plans to change history through Herod and his sister blow up in her face. Can she and Ari avert disaster, or will they join the other victims of Hanan ben Hanan?
Premonition surrounds the reader with the sights, sounds, customs and struggles of the Jewish people and the first-century Christian church. Premonition offers gut-wrenching emotions and white-knuckle suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I eagerly await Retribution, the next sequel in this series.
