Title: The Potluck Club Authors: Linda Evans Shepherd and Eva Marie Everson Publisher: Revell ISBN: 0-8007-5984-2 Genre: Inspirational/Women/Fiction Meet The Potluck Club—six women who gather each month to share friendship, food and a pinch of prayer—misinformed enough to bring down a church. Evie—is still suffering bitterness from a short-lived relationship, with the now sheriff, when she was twelve years old. Now her runaway niece has arrived with a huge surprise—a baby due any time. Lisa Leann—likes to be in control. Since her husband is bucking against everything she holds dear and spends his days fishing, she is determined to take over The Potluck Club and wrestle its ownership away from Evie. Goldie—her husband has been running around with other women, but she’s managed to keep her knowledge of his affairs secret until her no-good husband makes a mistake that threatens to end it all. Donna—is trying to figure out who is leaking everything she knows to the press—and who is this David Harris who is looking for a woman named Jewel? Lizzie—tries to keep her friends informed about the latest and greatest—after all, she’s the town librarian and has access to everything. Vonnie—must come to terms with a secret she’s kept hidden for years. I thoroughly enjoyed The Potluck Club which is chock full of realistic characters and loads of fun. There are yummy sounding recipes included at the back of the book, some of which I can’t wait to try. The faith message is expertly woven in and doesn’t appear to be preachy. I fell in love with all the characters in the book, but I think I liked Goldie and Vonnie the most because they both lived with heart-breaking secrets yet managed to stay sweet in spite of them. I highly recommend The Potluck Club and can’t wait to read the next book in this series coming in the summer of this year. $12.99. 380 pages. |
