Title: The Plight of Maddie Gordon Author: Jeanie Marie Leach Publisher: Treble Heart Books ISBN: 1932695478 Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Romance
Mattie Gordon’s calm, quiet life is interrupted when bounty hunter, Cyrus Braydon, arrives on her front porch hunting for Mattie’s son, Will. He has a wanted poster, stating that Will is wanted dead or alive for murder, horse thieving and cattle rustling. Mattie doesn’t believe that her sweet innocent boy is guilty of the crimes, and she’s determined to find Will to warn him about the bounty hunter pursing him.
But soon Mattie discovers that the bounty hunter is trailing her as she looks for Will. For safety, they decide to travel together. And perhaps, Cyrus Braydon isn’t so bad a person as Mattie thought he was. Is it possible she’s wrong about her son too?
The Plight of Maddie Gordon is a very well done historical romance. It held my interest from the beginning and didn’t let go. Mattie is a realistic character, as good as gold, and loving to her son and his friends. Cyrus is a bit rough around the edges, but as a bounty hunter, he’s perfect. And Will is realistically developed too.
The faith message is expertly woven in, and I could almost taste the dust on the old wagon trails as I read the book. Lovers of historical fiction are not going to want to miss this offering by Jeanie Marie Leach. Even though the book is published by a small press it is as good as some of the books published by larger houses. The cover is absolutely beautiful. $11.95. 179 pages.
