Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Romance

After spending years fighting in the Civil War, Trey McAllister has one goal: get back home to Kansas and the four sisters who raised him. But when he rides into Sassy Gap, Louisiana, he discovers a town of nine females, one of whom stirs his interests in a way no woman has in a long time.

Still, Trey plans to ride on after he helps put out a fire that the women say was purposely lit. He hears their story of how most of the women lost their men in the war, but one story is too wild to believe. They also explain about the man who is the source of their problems. Trey figures it's the women's attempt to keep him there, especially since half of them are making cow eyes at him.

Come morning, Trey rides out with thoughts of the dark-haired beauty, Mira Portier, on his mind. He arrives in the next town and questions why the men there don't help the women of Sassy Gap. He learns the story the women told him of Jean-Marc Portier, Mira's wealthy, controlling father and his devious efforts to run the women out of Sassy Gap are true. All the men in this nearby town cower down to him. One thing Trey can't abide is someone hurting women and children. Instead of going home, he turns his horse back toward Sassy Gap.

Things just get worse and worse for the women. Mira knows if she were to return home to Jean-Marc, everything would go easier for her friends. But not for her. She'd be trapped in a prison of misery. If only she could ride off with Trey and never return, but she can't. Will Trey be able to rally the women and save their honor and Sassy Gap? Will Mira return home for the sake of her friends? Is there any hope for Trey and Mira to find love and a life together?

The Plainsman is the unique story of the power of the indomitable American spirit. The women of Sassy Gap are not about to give in to the bully, Jean-Marc, even though he makes their lives miserable. Lesser women would have given in a long time ago, but Mira and her friends believe God will help them.

This is a story of forgiving the unforgivable and believing in God's power though all seems lost. I really enjoyed reading The Plainsman, but I was a little disappointed with the ending. I wanted to see the antagonist get his dues, and he did in a way, but not as I was expecting.

The Plainsman is an inspiring story of good versus bad, and it brings the old south to life. Lori Copeland weaves a tale that is humorous, quirky, faith-filled, and exciting. Don't miss The Plainsman, Book Four in The Men in the Saddle series. (330 pages / $11.99)
