Laura Meade is fascinated by the Amish—the way the dress, the buggies they drive, how they live without modern conveniences, everything. So when it’s time for her to go to college to study interior design, it is natural for her to choose to go to Lancaster, Pennsylvania for her studies.

As Laura attends school, she seeks out the Amish so she can learn more about them and their culture. Then she meets Eli Yoder, an Amish man, and she’s completely smitten.

Only problem: Laura isn’t a Christian. She is completely ‘fancy’, and she isn’t sure she even wants to attend church. Eli is a baptized member of the Amish church, and he’s forbidden to marry outside his faith. How far will Laura go to get her man?

Plain and Fancy is the third book in the Brides of Lancaster County series, and like the others, it easily stands alone. Plain and Fancy was originally published as a Heartsong Presents and is repackaged and lengthened for this series.

I can’t say that I cared much for Laura. She came from a rich and affluent ‘English’ family, and was very demanding and selfish. Even toward the end of the book, she was more selfish than I appreciated. Eli was infatuated with Laura and willing to risk anything short of shunning to be with her. It was nice to read more about the Amish in this series, and as most Heartsong Presents, the writing style is completely sweet. A recipe for pickled beets is included at the end. $12.95. 288 pages.
