Inspirational/Contemporary/Romantic/Suspense
Life hasn't been easy for firefighter Ellie Karlson. Working in a man's
world and doing a man's job, she's used to fighting for respect. Newly
appointed interim fire chief of Deep Haven, Ellie is determined to prove
to the skeptical macho fire crew that she's qualified to be their leader.
But Ellie isn't prepared for the sparks that fly when firefighter Dan
Matthews is literally dropped at her feet when a house explodes.
When not fighting fires, Dan is the town's pastor. He's content serving
God as a single man, but deep down he craves a wife-a woman who can share
his ministry. Years ago, Dan was devastated when his fiancée chose an
exciting career as a pilot over a life with him. The last person he wants
to get involved with is another woman with a death-wish job, but as much
as he fights it, Dan can't ignore his attraction to spunky Ellie. Though
he knows he can never lose his heart to another career woman, he can try
to shield and protect her. The only problem is, she wants nothing to do
with his cavalier protection.
When an arsonist begins setting fires, Ellie's job is on the line. Is she
woman enough to prove her theory to the skeptics who'd like to see her
fail? And what happens to her job if she loses her heart to Dan? Can she
afford to get involved with a firefighter under her command?
Author Susan May Warren hits a homerun with The Perfect Match. In
typical Warren style, her hero and heroine have opposing goals which
create plenty of toe-curling conflict. Dan has already been burned by a
career woman and is looking for a Proverbs 31 wife. Ellie wants to do
everything on her own, pulling her own weight, and wants nothing to do
with Dan's macho white knight attitude. The problem is, neither one can
deny their attraction to the other. So what's a firefighter to do?
Ms. Warren's research pays off, and she does a superbly realistic job
creating the fire scenes and showing the danger firefighters face daily.
Readers will enjoy discovering more about characters introduced in the
first two books of Warren's Deep Haven series and will definitely want to
pick up this third book. If you haven't read the two prequels, have no
fear, The Perfect Match is a stand-alone book. Heart tugging
romance, gut-twisting excitement, and a powerful faith message make The
Perfect Match an excellent read.
