Title: The Perfect Match

Author: Susan May Warren

Publisher: Tyndale House

ISBN: 0-8423-8119-8

Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary/Romantic/Suspense

Interim Fire Chief Ellie Karlson arrives in the small town of Deep Haven, Minnesota, in time for the town pastor and volunteer fireman, Dan Matthews to land at her feet after he flies from a window while he’s attempting to put out a house fire. Pastor Dan hits the ground hard, dislocating his shoulder and landing himself in the hospital. The only thing he remembers about the encounter is that he told Ellie that she was his dream come true.

Dan doesn’t feel that he does very well as a pastor. The house fire he battled when Ellie first appears is the home of one of his parishioners, and all the signs point to arson. Was the parishioner trying to kill himself—and his family? Or was someone else behind this fire?

Ellie’s arrival is met with discord among the firefighters. They weren’t expecting a female boss and some of the men are prepared to fight her to the bitter end. Do any of them hate her enough to set off the string of arson that plagues Deep Haven since her arrival? Can Dan ever hope to win the friendship and love of the stubborn fire chief?

I can’t find the words I want to say to praise The Perfect Match. Susie Warren has surpassed herself with this story. I think this book is the best in the Deep Haven Series. The characters are extremely well-developed, I fell instantly in love with Dan and Ellie and couldn’t help but care for them. Susie is also gifted in turning a perfect sentence, one that conveys deep emotion and instantly draws the reader deep into the story.

Even though The Perfect Match is the third book in the Deep Haven Series, it easily stands alone. Readers might want to read the first two, Tying the Knot and Happily Ever After as some of the same characters are in each book. I hope that The Perfect Match isn’t going to be the final book in the series.
