Title: Perfecting Kate Author: Tamara Leigh Publisher: Multnomah ISBN: 978-1-59052-927-0 Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary/Fiction
Kate Meadows is a successful artist. She’s also a strong Christian, and at least twice a year she swears she’s through with men forever. Her friend, Belle, keeps trying her hand at matchmaking, but Kate is still struggling to recover from a romance gone wrong. She’s not in the mood to date again. Then she meets Dr. Clive Alexander, who is overseeing the expansion of the children’s burn unit. He hires her to paint a mural to make a more child friendly environment. Sparks fly, but they’re the wrong king, promoting animosity instead of romance.
Kate has much better luck with Michael Palmier, make-up artist to the stars. He shows a strong interest in Kate, but every time she sees him he hands her a business card from a different expert who can make her look better; get the gap between her teeth fixed, remove a mole, highlight her hair, change from eyeglasses to contacts, even liposuction. Kate begins to wonder if there’s anything about her he really likes.
Perfecting Kate is a witty story about one woman’s struggle to find love in her battle for perfection, although nothing seems to work out the way she plans. Without being preachy, Tamara Leigh drives home the point that God loves us just as we are. An entertaining story with intriguing characters and a strong message of faith.
