Title: The Perfect Girl Author: Barb Huff Publisher: Barbour Publishing ISBN: 1-586-60980-7 Genre: Inspirational/Teen Fiction
Jenna Rose Brinley’s father is the new associate pastor at Faith Calvary Temple. Jenna Rose is not happy being the new girl in the middle of no where. She is just getting ready to enter her freshman year in high school and didn’t want to leave Savannah, Georgia, or her best friend, Amy, for what she considers Hicksville.
Deciding the best way to make friends is to get noticed, Jenna Rose chooses Sunday morning as a good time to make her entrance. When the congregation starts singing a hymn Jenna Rose has memorized, she sings louder than everyone else until everyone stops singing, letting her have the spotlight, with all eyes on her. Just the way she likes it.
But now no one is talking to her! Even the girls who Jenna Rose calls “The Olsen twins meet Marilyn Manson” ignore her! And the cutest guy she has met so far, seems to have his own agenda. The irresistible Parker Blevins seems to be only interested in Jenna Rose for her voice—and where that voice can take his garage band.
When it becomes clear that Jenna Rose has a pop-star attitude to go with her voice, and is devoted only to herself, will the band members be willing to continue being her friend? Or will they start treating her like everyone else does—like a nobody?
The Perfect Girl is an adorable book for girls. Jenna Rose is realistic; a confused teenager missing her best friend and trying to fit into a new community. She wants to be in the popular group, but as a new kid she doesn’t stand a chance. Or does she?
My only complaint about The Perfect Girl is the overuse of slang. I had to have my teenagers translate some of the terms used in the book because I didn’t understand what they were trying to say. Otherwise, the book grabbed my attention from page one and held it to the end. I will be saving this book for my daughter to read when she gets older as The Perfect Girl has a lesson teenage girls need to learn.
The Perfect Girl is book one in the On Tour Series. This is a good book to pick up for the special 9 – 14 year old girls on your Christmas list. | |
