Title: Peculiar People (Aguila and Prisca) Author: Richard Soule Publisher: Xulon Press ISBN: 1-591603-89-7 Genre: Biblical/Fiction
Tess Swift planned on studying to become a doctor, but when she begins to have mysterious dreams, she quickly decides to change her major to archaeology. This causes her family no end of distress. They are convinced that the sudden change of plans is a sign of mental instability. In spite of her family’s objections, she perseveres, graduating at the top of her class.
At the ruins of Ephesus, Tess finds a location that matches her dream. Conveniently managing to avoid the rest of the team, Tess begins to dig. As her dream dictates, she finds an ancient scroll. Expecting it to bring her financial freedom, she steals it, and quickly resigns her job and leaves the country.
The scroll turns out to be the story of Aquila and Prisca (Priscilla), co-workers of Paul, mentioned in many Bible stories. It starts with Aquila’s conversion in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost and takes them through life where Prisca encounters a life changing experience. Will this experience also help Tess encounter the truth?
Peculiar People starts in Tess’s viewpoint, but the majority of the book is the story of Aquila and Prisca, familiar to Christians as being the only married couple prominently mentioned in the New Testament. Real Biblical and historical events are mentioned, making for a dramatic backdrop for the miraculous events in their lives.
At first I was put off the size of Peculiar People. It’s a huge book, with over 584 pages, which is a bit daunting. There is a lot of back story in the first chapter but it is necessary to wade through because it’s all pertinent to the story. If you don’t mind thick books and are interested in Biblical and historical events, Peculiar People is the perfect book. Pick it up today. | |
