Title: Newlywed Games Author: Mary Davis Publisher: Palisades/Multnomah Publishers, Inc. ISBN: 1-57673-268-1
What harm can come of it? It'll make mom's final hours good and peaceful. What difference does one little tiny mis-truth matter if it makes someone happy?
Once the lies start in The Newlywed Games they get out of control and Meghann Livingston struggles with the decision to do right or let the lies go on. And so goes the life the heroine of The Newlywed Games. To complicate matters her gorgeous boss, Bruce Holloway, who she's made her pretend boyfriend, becomes her make-believe husband and doesn't seem to mind one bit.
Meghann is at a loss as to what to do, when her best friend Jennifer reminds Meghann that Meghann's mothers miraculous recovery could be impeded if they told her the truth.
When Meghann's mom decides she's well enough to fly out and meet her new son-in-law Meghann sends him on an imaginary business trip. Unfortunately Bruce Holloway is more than willing to play the part and doesn't co-operate with the business trip idea. When his family shows up the plot pot really boils over.
Author Mary Davis does a great job with the winding plot and charming characters, the readers is taken on a journey of suspense, laughter and concern. The message to trust God in all things is woven through this humorous story of truth and consequences.
My favorite line in the book? “A certain pair of warm brown eyes came to mind like soft melted chocolate–she had a sudden hankering for a Snickers bar.”
