Jimmy Browning has loved Helena since the moment he met her, but he’s much too young to think about forever. Especially when his older sister rouses him out of bed on the first day of summer vacation because their bull, Titus, has somehow gotten loose. Titus has been raised since infanthood by Frankie, and he loves her like she was his mother. He’d just as soon kill anyone else.

Frankie rouses several of their friends and they take their old pickup truck and try to capture the bull. It takes some doing, but they finally get him lassoed and tied to the back of the pickup, then they haul him back home. What kind of important part will Titus play in the future of both Frankie and Jimmy?

Myth of the Summer Moon is the first book I’ve read by Steve and Aaron Reed, one of the talented new authors that Baker Trittin Press has published recently. The story is passive, and even though there is plenty of excitement, it really isn’t gripping as a result. Still, the dual is talented in word plays and descriptions. They do have a story that needs to be told, and a lesson that needs to be taught.

Since the book is geared toward tweener boys, I gave Myth of the Summer Moon to my son, who has been a long time fan of some of Baker Tritten Press’ prior publications. My son agrees that it takes some time to get into the story. If your sons interested in bulls and interesting tricks that could happen on a charging bull, then Myth of the Summer Moon is worth picking up. It does have a good story-line. $10.95. 158 pages.
