Title: The Mustang Breaker Author: Stephen Bly Publisher: Broadman & Holman Publishers ISBN: 978-0-8054-3172-8 Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary/Western
Develyn Worrell is continuing to enjoy her vacation in the Wyoming dirt road town that she remembers from her childhood. She is far away from the familiar life she lives in Indiana as a school teacher. Now she’s dating a wonderful man, Quint, even if he does expect her to be a carbon copy of his ex-wife, and expecting a marriage proposal.
But even as Dev’s vacation seems to be loosening her up, her relationship with her daughter seems to be growing more complicated. Delaney has been experiencing some flu like symptoms, and according to the rumor mill which keeps Dev fed, everyone believes Delaney is pregnant. Will Develyn stay in Wyoming or rush home to Indiana to be with her daughter? And if she does stay in Wyoming, will Quint propose? Will Develyn accept?
The Mustang Breaker is the second book in the Horse Dreams series, and readers will want to read Memories of a Dirt Road Town first to get a good grasp on the story. Even after reading the first in the series, The Mustang Breaker’s beginning is a bit confusing as it starts out in a dream sequence, and one doesn’t realize she’s dreaming until later on in the chapter.
Written in mostly dialogue, the story is still easy to follow. I would have liked it better if there were more description of the setting, but there is enough to get a grasp of the story, but not to envision the scenery. It was nice to touch base with Develyn and see what happens next on her vacation to Wyoming, and I’m looking forward to reading the third book in the series I Wish I’d Known You Tears Ago. Don’t miss The Mustang Breaker. It is a great vacation read during the hot days of summer. $14.99. 347 pages.
