Title: Murder, Mayhem, And A Fine Man Author: Claudia Mair Burney Publisher: NavPress ISBN: 1-57683-978-8 Genre: Inspirational/Mystery
Amanda Bell Brown is a forensic psychologist, with a big sister who can be a royal pain. Big Sister Carley is the medical examiner and has seen her share of crime. She just wants Bell to find a good man. Enter Jazz Brown. Tall, handsome, great sense of humor, everything a girl wants in a man, and . . .unavailable.
Bell has a past, one she thought was over, but the latest murder Jazz is investigating has some elements that strike too close to home. She ends up at the crime scene, and realizes she has been there before. She knows the dead men, and she just may know the killer.
Jazz has a past of his own, one that gets in the way of his relationship with women. That’s why he has labeled his heart as unavailable. He’s smart, capable, and has a ton of self-esteem, until he meets Bell. He cannot understand that woman. The minute he thinks he has her figured out, she does something so utterly frustrating he’s ready to walk away, but then again, maybe he should give her one more chance.
I expected this book to be flip, sarcastic, funny, and it’s all that. The characters are engaging and extremely well developed. About halfway through the story I knew if Bell didn’t want Jazz, I did. He’s the kind of hero every woman dreams about. What I didn’t expect was the strong suspense, the heartbreaking problems, and the realization that this is something that could happen to anyone. In Murder, Mayhem and a Fine Man, Claudia Mair Burney has gone beyond chick lit. There are layers of depth and she walks all over the reader’s emotions. Claudia Mair Burney is a new writer for me. I’m looking forward to her next one.
