Title: A Mother’s Promise Author: Ruth Scofield Publisher: Love Inspired ISBN: 0-373-87351-4 Genre: Inspirational/Romance
Lisa Marley is trying to start over. She is out of prison on probation, and her aunt has foster care of her young daughter, Cecily. Lisa is trying to work to save enough money so she can rent an apartment and get her daughter back, but her aunt rarely even lets her visit Cecily, and is threatening to take Cecily away completely. When a friend tells Lisa about New Beginnings, Lisa attends because that is definitely what she needs.
Ethan Vance is an out-of-work bank manager, and struggling musician. He attends New Beginnings because his wife has passed away and he is struggling to raise three children on his own. He is fascinated by the lovely Lisa, but unsure how to pursue a relationship with her.
When a co-worker discovers Lisa’s past, she is fired from her job, and her dreams of getting Cecily seem further away than ever. Ethan tries to support her as much as he can, and he displays trust when no one else does. Can Ethan hold the key to a happy-ever-after for both of them?
A Mother’s Promise is a cute read, with an expertly woven-in faith message. I enjoyed reading the story and hoped that Lisa would get her life back in order. Ethan didn’t seem to have much going wrong in his life, and he was very sure of himself. However, some parts of the characterization was a bit flat.
If you are looking for a good read about single parents and trying to start over, A Mother’s Promise is an excellent book. There is an underlying message of hope. A Mother’s Promise is the perfect book to tuck into your purse. $4.99. 249 pages. |
