Title: Monster Author: Frank Peretti Publisher: WestBow ISBN: 1-5955-4032-6 Genre: Inspirational/Thriller/Suspense With his newest novel, Monster, Frank Peretti is wasting no one's time. While he tackles evolution, his characters tackle a monster. I won't ruin the book by revealing who wins in the latter struggle, but I can say that Peretti is the victor in his. It has been six long years since Frank has come out with a novel for adults (though I admit I read The Hangman's Curse for a Peretti-fix), but the wait was well worth it. Reed and Beck Shelton are out on a camping excursion when they find themselves in the middle of local Bigfoot legend. After only a moment of confusion, Beck is gone, maybe dead, leaving her husband to find her. A simple monster story? Hardly. There is danger from the hairy monster, but there is also danger in merely finding out what the monster is. A cadre of self-serving scientists want to make Sasquatch Evolution's ultimate trophy, no matter what it takes, or who dies in the process. If you have heard people say that Monster is simply a rehashing of The Oath, don't believe it. Yes, both are suspense-filled thrillers, one of Christian Literature's smallest genres and sure, Monster and The Oath are both frightening, but that's where the comparison stops. This is a new tale, with an entirely new twist. Monster, the latest novel by Frank Peretti, reads like a fuse burns, fast and hot. The hunt for a good read is over when the hunt for a monster begins. | |
