Title: The Mom I Want To Be Author: T. Suzanne Eller Publisher: Harvest House Publishers ISBN: 9-7369-1755-1 Genre: Christian Living/Women’s Issues
She was fragile and beautiful, with blue eyes and wispy blond hair. I touched her tiny face, amazed—but also afraid. Would I repeat the mistakes of my past? Would my daughter one day carry the same burdens I did as a child? And the most pressing question of all:
How could I be a good mother when I didn’t know how? (page 11, The Mom I Want To Be)
Your experience as a wife and mother is directly influenced by the mothering you received. If neglect or inconsistency was part of that then you need a healthier view of how motherhood should be.
Suzie Eller’s childhood wasn’t wonderful, and in this naked truth story about her own neglect, she will show you what she’s learned on how to be a godly, nurturing model. Suzie will show you:
• how to move beyond your fear that you’ll pass on damaging patterns to your children •learn to forgive your parents and leave that emotional baggage in the past •give your kids good memories and a great future
In short, easy to read chapters, Suzie will teach you one point at a time, and then provide several questions, with adequate lines for answering so you’ll be able to work beyond your pain.
I really couldn’t relate to all this as I had a wonderful mother, but I sympathize to anyone who has to go through some of the abuse that was noted in this book. It is a good book for counselors, for teachers, and for pastors to have in their libraries. It could also be used for small group studies. $11.99. 220 pages.
