Title: Mixed Blessings Author: Cathy Marie Hake Publisher: Love Inspired ISBN: 065373415059 Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary Romance
A routine medical exam didn’t turn out quite so ordinary when Marie Cadant discovers, to her horror, that her son, and the son of another family were switched at birth.
Wealthy businessman, Peter Hallock, is horrified when he receives a call saying that “I have your son.” Convinced he is about to have his beloved son kidnapped, Peter promptly calls the police. When Marie arrives at Peter’s house, they are there, guns drawn. Soon it becomes apparent that there really has been a mix-up at birth. But neither Marie or Peter are prepared to give up the boy they’ve raised and loved for the past three years even though both want the other to sign over custody of the other boy . . . What lengths are they prepared to go for the child they’ve been denied?
Mixed Blessings is a definite twist from the usual run of the mill romance. I don’t think I’ve ever read a story about a mix-up at birth, and I enjoyed this one. It was believably handled so the reader isn’t thinking ‘there’s no way this can happen . . . .’ I came to care deeply for Marie and her handicapped sister, Sandy. Peter was a bit aggressive for my taste, but I can understand why he acts the way he does. I sympathized with both parents wanting their biological child, yet not wanting to give up the one they raised. I do think that Marie didn’t think things through enough before she starts contacting Peter.
Mixed Blessings is probably one of the best Love Inspired titles I’ve read this year. Pick up Mixed Blessings today. You won’t be disappointed. |
