After a devastating fire kills her beloved husband and young daughter, Michaela Macintosh is certain she'll never love again. She's tried to put her pain behind and make a life with her aunt, but she's haunted by the memories of what she's lost. Philip, her husband's brother, has been both a friend and comfort over the past year and a half. When he confesses that his feelings have changed and that he loves her and wants them to be married, Michaela is stunned.

Needing time to sort out her feelings for Philip, she travels to the country to care for her brother's wife while Emma is in the late stages of her pregnancy. There, she meets widower Eric Johnson and his six children. When she learns that the Johnsons own a lovely piano but none of them know how to play it, Michaela offers to give the children lessons.

As Michaela gets to know Eric, she realizes how much she likes the man. They can talk together without feeling uncomfortable, and they share a mutual love for his children. When Eric suddenly expresses how his feelings for her have grown into love, Michaela is once again taken by surprise. Now she has two men vying for her hand. Could she have mistaken friendship and love? Will she choose Philip or Eric? Or will she remain locked in the past?

Normally I don't care for stories where two people fall for one person. I always feel there has to be a loser, but in Michaela's Choice, author Lisa Harris does an excellent job weaving Michaela's story and making everyone come out a winner in the end. What truly matters for Michaela is to release the grieving hurt she's been holding on to and listen to what God wants for her life. It takes her a while to learn this, but she finally does.

Both Eric and Philip are honorable, chivalrous men and make excellent heroes. Though Michaela is hurting, she continually reaches out to others in need. The plot moves along at a steady pace and has a couple of heart-stopping moments, as well as heart-warming romance. Readers who enjoy a sweet romance are sure to fall in love with Michaela's Choice
