Cass Claxton, the love ‘em and leave ‘em one of the Claxton boys, is on his way home from visiting his brother Beau and his sister-in-law Charity when he sees four riders approaching. As they come closer, he sees one is that infuriating female, Susanne McCord. He plans to tip his hat and ride on by, but to his surprise, they block his way. That’s when Cass learns he’s the guest of honor at a shotgun wedding. Susanne has falsely accused him of taking advantage of her.

Cass is furious, but with the sheriff’s shotgun pressed to his side, he doesn’t have much choice, so he marries the lying, conniving, sorry excuse of a female. The preacher, the sheriff, and Susanne’s father ride away, leaving the new bride and groom alone. Susanne cheerfully admits she lied but she promises to have the wedding annulled the moment she reaches her Aunt Estelle’s home in St. Louis.

As soon as he can dump Susanne at her aunts house, Cass goes his way, believing Susanne will have the marriage annulled. He dedicates himself to living life to the fullest, until Susanne pops back into his life. She says she’s changed, but Cass has his doubts.
