Title: Matthew's Story (An Introduction to the Gospel of Matthew) Author: Dr. Marvin G. Baker Publisher: Tweener Press ISBN: 0-9729256-2-7 Genre: Inspirational/Nonfiction
Matthew's Story is written in first person and is designed for eight- to twelve-year-olds. Since people aren’t spending as much time reading the Bible as they do watching television, playing video games, or reading the latest book in the Harry Potter Series, Dr. Baker thought he would try to rewrite books of the Bible in story form, hoping to generate some interest in scripture reading and combatting the children’s boredom with Jesus.
Matthew's Story is well-written and does hold the interest of the reader. It is nice to be able to read the book of Matthew in story form, and I think this book would appeal to new Christians in addition to children. It would work well to be used in Bible study groups with young people and for personal reading. I don’t see it working in the traditional church setting though.
If you or someone you know could benefit from being able to read the Bible in story form, Matthew's Story might be the book to pick up for them. This is not a new version of the Bible. It is simply a retelling of the old, old story, hoping to generate interest in Jesus and the Bible again. Pick it up today. | |
