Grace Harrison runs a matchmaking group at her local church. This innovative approach involves ten minute dates to see if you are interested in seeing the other person one-on-one. No hassle, no commitment, just ten minutes of time. But Grace doesn’t have a man for herself. She is afraid of getting to know men, believing they will want a way to approach her Senator father.

Jud Marlowe is a journalist struggling to regain his lost career. His new boss, the only one willing to take a chance on a has-been, is giving him fluff assignments, like this one for Valentine’s day. In researching Grace’s matchmaking business, Jud keeps hoping that he’ll get to the big news—the Senator himself.

Grace is too cautious, and is unwilling to trust Jud with any information other than what he needs for his article. What will it take for Jud to get the real scoop? Or will he find love instead?

Matchmaker, Matchmaker is set in Washington D.C. and, of course, since a Senator is involved, it includes a lot of political mumbo-jumbo. I can’t really say I enjoy books with this setting, but the reporter going through a matchmaker to get a story is certainly a unique twist.

I couldn’t really relate to the characters though, they never did become real to me. Jud is conniving, and I wouldn’t trust him within an inch of my life. Grace on the other hand is uneasy and doesn’t seem willing to let herself be real. In spite of the less than ideal characterization though, Matchmaker, Matchmaker  is a fun book to pick up for a Valentine’s Day read. $4.99. 252 pages.
