Ken DeWitt’s life is shrouded in secrets, disappointment, and betrayal. A landscaper, he has traveled from city to city, never getting close to anyone. Now he’s settled in a new town, has a growing business, and has even made a few friends. But it’s one friend in particular that is beginning to thaw his cold, lonely heart.

Annie O’Keefe has spent her life caring for sickly parents. At forty-two, she feels all chances for love and a family have passed her by. Still, her heart can’t help beating more quickly whenever Ken comes to do the yard work. The fact that he keeps coming to her rescue when problems overwhelm may explain her rapid pulse. There’s just something about the strong, quiet man that tugs at Annie’s heart and makes her want to wrap her arms around him. But Ken has major issues with God and people. Can a forty-something spinster help a cautious recluse find God and love?

There’s no doubt about it—Loving Ways is certain to tug at your heartstrings. You’ll cheer for Annie as she slowly emerges from her cocoon and begins to take flight. You’ll feel true empathy for Ken and the miserable life he’s led. Still, after everything he’s been through, he remains a kind, gentle man. Though his past is less than stellar; you can’t help but admire the man he’s become. Ken and Annie are normal, everyday people who most readers will be able to relate to.

I found Loving Ways to be a bit heavier read than the other books in the Loving series. Still, the faith message is powerful. It clearly shows the difference in a person willing to forgive and one who isn’t. Forgiveness, like faith, is a choice that will change a person’s life, and Loving Ways proves this.

I enjoyed catching a glimpse at previous characters from the series, especially Phillip, Jemma, and the ever-eccentric Claire. Though we don’t see him in Loving Ways, Andrew, Phillip’s prodigal brother, plays an absentee part in the story. It makes me wonder if there isn’t another book in the Loving series on the horizon.

For a sweet romance that is certain to dampen your eyes and warm you heart, pick up a copy of Loving Ways, the third book in Gail Gaymer Martin’s Loving Series.
